About the Role

Intentional Education provides individualized instruction for scholars in Pre-K 4 through fifth grade. We support families through reading, writing, math, executive function, and homeschool instruction.

We are seeking dual-certified teachers who prepare with care, notice how a scholar learns, and adjust instruction with purpose. Our educators build strong relationships with families while keeping lessons focused, progress visible, and expectations clear.

Responsibilities

Provide individualized instruction within your qualifications and areas of expertise.
Use assessment information and lesson observations to identify priorities and plan instruction.
Prepare lessons, adapt materials, and maintain concise progress notes.
Share clear, specific updates with families about progress and next steps.
Maintain consistent scheduling, professional boundaries, and confidentiality.
Collaborate with the founder when a scholar needs a change in approach.
Complete onboarding and participate in up to one hour of company professional development per month, scheduled in advance.

Qualifications

Required Certifications and Training

Required of every candidate. Every Intentional Education educator holds dual certification in elementary and special education and is trained in Orton-Gillingham and multisensory instruction.

A valid New Jersey Standard instructional certificate appropriate to the assigned grade levels.
An elementary endorsement: Elementary School Teacher in Grades K–6 or Preschool Through Grade 3. A valid legacy elementary endorsement may be considered after we verify its scope.
A special education endorsement: Teacher of Students with Disabilities, or a valid legacy Teacher of the Handicapped certificate.
Documented training in Orton-Gillingham and multisensory instruction. This training adds to your teaching certificates and does not replace them.
Assignments must align with your verified certification and expertise. Preschool Through Grade 3 alone does not qualify a candidate for fourth- or fifth-grade assignments.
List your certificate type, endorsements, current status, and Orton-Gillingham training in your résumé or introductory email. We verify every credential before placement.

Relevant elementary teaching or tutoring experience.
Capacity to serve at least four distinct, recurring in-person scholars each week.
Recurring availability Monday through Friday. We welcome daytime homeschool availability, after-school availability, or both. You do not need to be available all five days.
Reliable travel to agreed locations within Hudson County.
A reliable laptop or tablet, phone, and internet connection. You will use company-approved systems for all scholar information.
Willingness to receive feedback, refine your instructional practice, and participate in up to one hour of professional development per month.

Assignments depend on enrollment, location, availability, and instructional fit. We do not guarantee a minimum caseload.

Full Orton-Gillingham certification in addition to the required training.
Experience supporting scholars with learning differences, IEPs, or executive function needs.
Experience providing individualized elementary or homeschool instruction.

Teaching With Us

Our Approach: The Cornerstone Assessment

The Cornerstone Assessment is Intentional Education's criterion-referenced instructional assessment. It helps us understand a scholar's current skills, identify priorities, and establish a starting point for individualized instruction.

Teachers use the resulting Scholar Profile to plan purposeful lessons, monitor progress, and adjust support. After training, educators may assist with administration, scoring, and documentation within company procedures. Quarterly reassessment helps us evaluate growth and set the next instructional priorities.

Senior Private Tutor

Senior candidates should demonstrate specialized instructional expertise, strong family communication, and the ability to make sound instructional decisions independently. We value experience mentoring educators. We make Senior placements based on demonstrated qualifications and fit.
