Great instruction is designed, not improvised. Intentional Education brings the rigor of a design practice to a single child's learning: we assess with precision, measure against grade-level norms, and teach with intention.
The Cornerstone Assessment is our signature diagnostic and the bedrock every learning plan is built on. It is not a school worksheet or an online quiz. It is an evaluator-guided, one-on-one diagnostic that looks closely at the two foundations of academic success, literacy and mathematics, for scholars from Pre-K 4 through 5th grade. Where a report-card grade tells a family that a scholar is struggling, the Cornerstone Assessment tells them exactly why, and exactly what to do next.
The Cornerstone exists to end the guessing. It gives your family a clear, honest picture of where your scholar stands, so every hour of instruction is aimed at exactly what will move them forward. No vague reading levels, no wasted time, just visible, measured progress.
It is designed especially for families seeking homeschooling support or academic coaching and guidance, where it becomes the blueprint for targeted, standards-aligned instruction at home. It is just as powerful for scholars who need supplementary support alongside school, pinpointing the exact gaps to close and the strengths to build on.
Phonemic awareness, phonics, fluency, vocabulary, and comprehension, sequenced in the order established by the National Reading Panel. Reading rate is measured as oral reading fluency against nationally recognized norms.
Number sense, place value, operations, fractions, measurement, and geometry, following research-based learning trajectories. Early math is assessed concretely, with real manipulatives.
A trained evaluator administers each measure live, exactly as the most respected clinical reading assessments are delivered.
A dual-screen design means the scholar sees only warm, colorful prompts, never a score and never a red mark.
The assessment adjusts to the scholar, with a built-in stop rule that prevents frustration.
IEP and 504 accommodations are captured and honored.
The outcome is a complete Scholar Profile: where your scholar stands, where they are headed, and the first steps of their plan. A single number never tells the whole story, so it never rests on one. The Profile reports a full battery of measures across literacy and mathematics, each placed beside the national norm or grade-level benchmark for your scholar's grade and season.
In literacy, our measures span both strands of Scarborough's Reading Rope: phonemic awareness, phonics and decoding, and oral reading fluency on the word-recognition side, and vocabulary and comprehension on the language side. Each is anchored to a research source, including DIBELS 8th Edition benchmark cut points, the Hasbrouck and Tindal (2017) oral reading fluency norms, and Ehri's Phases of Word Reading.
In mathematics, number sense, place value, operations, fractions, measurement, and geometry are mapped to Common Core and the New Jersey Student Learning Standards, with fact fluency measured against research-based targets.
Because we reassess each quarter across the 4D Learning Cycle, these are never one-time scores. Families watch each measure move toward grade level over the year.
Whether your scholar is homeschooled or learning alongside school, this Profile becomes the blueprint. Homeschooling families use it to design targeted, standards-aligned instruction at home, and families seeking supplementary support use it to close the exact gaps that matter, without wasted time.
